This month saw the first co-lab art exhibition between Imenent, a new era web based performance management system, and visual artist Zonia Nel, at Slee Gallery in Stellenbosch.
The exhibition was the launch of an extended Imenent service, where art is used as an intervention to help organisations understand and improve their internal culture.
“At Imenent we assist organisations to develop and grow a healthy internal culture, since culture has a determining impact on employee engagement and the overall success and sustainability of the business,” said Adri Dörnbrack, Main Culture Architect (MD) of Imenent. “Through our various HR management experiences, we found that creative ways of communicating important concepts to employees eg. conversation art, are a lot more powerful in communicating and transferring the concepts to employees, compared to “classroom” interventions, for this specific subject matter. This intervention is fun, creative, and spurs conversation which, in turn improves overall culture of the business and most importantly the performance and engagement of the valued employees.” she added.
For this art-based intervention, Imenent consults with an organisation and conducts an internal culture assessment to determine positive and negative dimensions of the culture. Visual artist Zonia Nel is then briefed to paint a visual representation of the culture assessment. The painting is then hung in the organisation’s offices for a period of time as a conversational art piece.
“The painting gives the organisation a way to encourage their employees to discuss the culture in a more objective way,” said Nel. “The conversations around the painting are then used to determine what needs to change to improve the internal culture. After a determined period of time, a new painting is done, which is then a representation of the desired culture,” she added.
